When responding to calls from the public, the U.S. Department of Education has made it very clear student achievement, high school graduation and preparing students for post-high school life are important roles of public schools. This is also true for students eligible for special education. School district and state leaders are challenged to figure out how to measure the effectiveness of programs for meeting these goals, which affects all teachers, including special education teachers, across the United States.
