Valor Honor Code Essay

For years students giving in to cheating has been a common problem all teachers face at some point in their careers. Some schools have strategies to reduce cheating, such as using casitas during exams, however this only acts as a temporary fix. These kinds of strategies only push students towards not to cheating, but does not teach them the importance of being honest. For this reason, Cypress Lakes High School should maintain its VALOR honor code system, to teach students valuable principles that they can carry on to their future. Often students enter high school with the approach that they must overcome a few additional years until they can get into university. As a result, some students take up cheating as an effortless way to pass classes they feel uninterested about. Universities look for students who are honest and hardworking, because those students will represent their campus and if most of the students decide on cheating their way through, it sends a negative image to high school seniors in search of a good college. Numerous students have entered universities with these careless habits and have “either dropped out or been expelled” due to “violating the school’s honor code” (Source D). High school is the stepping stones to university, there one begins to develop skills and principles that will help shape who they become, so by leading a cheating high school career students won’t learn the true value of honesty in their work and will enter university unprepared.
