This place is like a ticking time bomb, with soldiers dying everyday. I am torn by this and I just cannot help but think about when my day might come. If I wait I'll just be like the rest and distressed. It is the middle of the Revolutionary war in 1777. George Washington and his army are staying at a winter camp called Valley Forge in Pennsylvania. It is nearby Philadelphia where the British are staying. This place where I am supposed to be safe has caused nothing but tragedies, yet the question still stands, “Would you have quit?” I have thought long and hard about this and I have come to the conclusion that I am not going to re-enlist for the following three reasons. I do not want to die in Valley Forge there. There is not any food or supplies that are necessary to live, and the living conditions are horrid. …show more content…
At Valley Forge I have less than a 50% chance of survival. With this in mind, I have decided that I do not want to stay here and I especially do not want to die here. About 2,500 soldiers have already died to illness and disease (doc A). The disease that caused many soldiers to die is smallpox. Smallpox caused the soldiers to develop blisters and sores to appear on them. This notified everyone that they had smallpox (America's Story About Us). This deadly disease is contagious, so it spread quickly in Valley Forge. There is no cure for smallpox and four out of ten victims of smallpox die. This caused many of the soldiers to
