Valedictorian Speech

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, fellow graduates. First of all I would like to thank the teachers, parent volunteers, and any other person that was not mentioned that has had an impact in our years at St. Albert. Some of you may not have thought of it this way, but elementary school is where most of your year of education will come from. This year would not have been the same without them. Has been filled with so many new experiences and amazing memories, but it seems like it has also gone by so quickly. I feel as if just yesterday, we were just in grade 6 and for some of you kindergarten. Grade 8 is supposed to be the year of new beginnings, leaving for high school.

Michael Dell once said that “the first thing you should do is throw away that store-bought map and begin to draw your own. I am not telling you to forget the last 10 years of your life because those are important. What I am telling you is that the teachers you’ve had

2 years ago, I left my old school and joined St. Albert. A new year with 40 new faces at a new school. Extremely scary. Over 3 years, I’ve joined so many extra-curricular activities and made so many friends. That was not expected for that girl in grade 6. I would never believe that 2 years later, I would be standing in front of you, saying a speech, trying to be the grade 8 valedictorian.

So every so often, Mr. B gives us these quote responses, and asks us to write down what we think they mean. A couple of weeks ago, we got a quote by Lucius Annaeus Seneca. It said “If one does not know to which port one is sailing, no wind is favorable.” Some people might interpret this quote differently but with this quote I see each of us as a boat. You can be a canoe, a rowboat, and a yacht. But every boat travels its own way and hardships such as storms, you might even lose sight of shore. But you will reach the “port”, some people might reach it earlier and some

“You can’t cross the sea merely by standing and staring at the water.” I feel this quote goes perfectly with this article for the following. This quote means, in simpler words, you can’t succeed if you don’t work for it. In, “A Solemn Warning to Wingsuit Flyers” the author explains how Robson made huge improvements to wingsuit flying by combining his…

There will always be an inertia one must go against any given journey. Emerson invites individuals to impede outside opinion to affect one’s self. Being foolishly consistent can be compared to being imprisoned, it is like being under the rule of another instead of your own. For this reason, Emerson stresses the idea of listening to one’s inner self without letting the outermost disturb. Emerson also avows that “To be great is to be misunderstood”, being misunderstood is no reason to be afraid.…

My personal narrative essay is about my transfer from Bible Baptist to Savannah Christian and my feelings towards the process of transferring and the first day at Savannah Christian. Overall the transfer was better than I presumed it would be because I sustained a better education than I did at Bible Baptist. The transfer taught me that sometimes change is for the greater good. If I had the ability to go back in time and tell my future self-something about this situation it would be not to be nervous just breathe. Finding out I was going to a new school could be compared to when I found out my first fish had died, heartbreaking.…

Moving schools away from all of my friends should’ve been an appalling experience, surprisingly, it was a blessing in disguise. I went to Agnes Baptist Elementary from kindergarten to 5th grade and I had friends that I've known since I was 3. I loved it there and knew the school like the back of my hand. Everything was superior, like most good things, though there were times where they weren’t, I was harassed by a bully almost everyday, my grades were getting inadequate, and my mom didn’t want me to be a sad, disconsolate 7th grader at a new junior high. In the result, I moved and I went to Savage Middle School, a school that had 6th, 7th, and 8th graders.…

In 2006, I began my journey at The Valley School as a first grade student. Moving over from my previous school, which I had attended from the time I was three until I was six years old, was fairly smooth. I had friends who made the switch with me and, being the social butterfly I was, making new friends was a breeze. In the first few years as a student, I saw Valley move into three buildings.…

Everything was new to my father and I, but we had to find a way to move on, moving from Michigan to California was a huge difference. One day my mother found me in the bathtub with soaking wet books. I had always been a prevalent reader, but I guess my escapade in the bathtub went a little too far. After my parents learned of my interest in maps they took me to a maps exhibit in Baltimore.…
