Vaidya's Ill-Founded Criticisms Of Business Ethics Case Study
This is not justifiable because it is saying that a business carrying out ethics would diminish their competitiveness in the market. One does not have to be ethical to succeed in the market. There are many example where applying these methods does the company good. For example, if a business does not enforce certain ethics for employee conduct, they would not have any rules or regulations to abide by, therefore causing disorder. This also ties into the point of behaviorism being more important than ethical inquiry. Without a set of ethical rules how will gauge whether a particular behavior is wrong or not? It does not make sense; it's as if you want your child to behave according to your standard without actually laying down what your stands are. The last point is that business ethics is Indeterminant or due to there being a lack of agreement for certain aspects of ethics, there is no point in paying attention to it at all. For example, years ago child labor was ok, but due to by using business ethics we were able to see that we needed child labor law established for protection purposes. It is important to study business ethics for many reasons but I think its overall importance is to provide a sense of structure for how business decisions are made and people should conduct themselves to ensure the satisfaction of everyone involved I.E. consumers, shareholders employees
