Vaccines On Autism Study

Vaccines on Autism In 1998, Andrew Wakefield and twelve of his colleagues published a case series about the affects vaccines could have on children. In this study, they tested 11 children and essentially blamed the children's health problems on the MMR vaccine. After this study came out, it gained the attention of a lot of parents and the number of MMR vaccines dropped. When later tested by other scientists, the results could not be replicated and the article was retracted. However, parents and many people still use this as an excuse to not vaccinate children with the MMR vaccine today. Now there is a rise in measles cases and measles related deaths. An experiment that can be used to test the validity of the effect of vaccines on autism would

Between the prison study and the MMR vaccination studies that were published, I feel that the MMR study that was reported in the Lancet was the most damaging. While Stanford’s prison study harmed the volunteers that participated, the reported study in the Lancet caused trouble on a global scale. The MMR study conducted by Andrew Wakefield and twelve of his colleagues reported a potential link between the vaccine and Autism. The problem with the MMR study was the source of the information – Wakefield.…

The article, “I Want Your Fear” by Ryan Henderson goes in depth on the incorrect assumption that vaccines lead to autism. Henderson describes how the anti-vaccine movement started. The author claims that Andrew Wakefield caused the anti-vaccine movement, which began with a paper stating that the MMR vaccine caused autism and Crohn’s Disease. However, Wakefield’s claims hold no scientific weight and caused a mass hysteria. Wakefield does not have the credentials to make such claims as he is a medical doctor and not a vaccine scientist.…

The current measles outbreak in Canada is due largely from misinformed parents refusing to vaccinate their kids. Vaccines are incredibly safe, and the chances of being injured by a vaccine preventable disease are increasingly higher than a vaccine itself. Many claims made against the safety of vaccinations are unreliable and have been debunked by scientific research time and time again. One of the largest opposing arguments comes from a study conducted solely by Andrew Wakefield in 1998 connecting the MMR vaccine to the rise in kids with autism. Since then, seven large medical journals conducted studies finding no link between MMR and ASD, officially retracting Andrew Wakefield’s original paper and stripping him of his doctoring license due to the release of fraudulent information.…

But, 10 of the 12 researchers have since retracted their findings, and have said, “no causal link was established between MMR vaccine and autism as the data were insufficient.” Furthermore, the scientists have since been exonerated and charged with scientific fraud for ethical violations and scientific misrepresentation (The MMR vaccine and autism: Sensation, refutation, retraction, and fraud…

Introduction When invasive cells such as viruses or bacteria enter the body, then lymphocytes produce antibodies to neutralize these intruders that are called antigens. A healthy individual creates millions of antibodies a day, which help maintain a healthy body without illnesses. Certain malignant antigens however are able to attack the body before the antibodies are able to be generated. Many diseases in the past have decimated large portions of the human race, such as: measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, influenza, polio, and hepatitis. An immeasurable amount of men, women, and children throughout history were defenseless against these diseases and had their lives ruined by arduous illnesses.…

According to The Health Wyze Report, there is an undeniable connection between autism and vaccinations in addition to many others such as Guillain Barré syndrome, which is permanent paralysis. According to the Anti-Vaccine Scientific Support Arsenal, “Andrew Wakefield’s colleague who co-authored the MMR study that linked the MMR vaccine to autism, has been exonerated and his studies have been confirmed.” Vaccines are supposed to protect people from diseases, but nearly all vaccines loose their effectiveness over time. Sometimes people become infected by vaccines because of the live viral strands used when they were supposed to be getting protection from that disease through the vaccine. The protection rate fluctuates between 35% and 90%.…

This is largely in part due to a study that came out that claimed that vaccines could cause autism. Andrew Wakefield and a dozen co-authors published a now-retracted paper in The Lancet in February 1998 that claimed that autism and the MMR vaccine were related. It provided case studies for 12 children looking into their immunization with the MMR vaccine. “The authors wrote, ‘In eight children, the onset of behavioral problems had been linked, either by the parents or by the child’s physician, with MMR vaccination,’” (Ziv).…

Equally important to this is the statement made by Justin Fox, “The belief in a link between the MMR vaccine and autism… (Was proposed by)…a British doctor who has since lost his medical license” (Fox, 2015, Paragraph 1). Furthermore the amount of credible medical professionals, government organizations, and scientists who claim there is no relationship between the two appears to outweigh the opposition heavily. According to one government operated organization “Some people have had concerns that ASD might be linked to the vaccines children receive, but studies have shown that there is no link between receiving vaccines and developing ASD. In 2011, an Institute of Medicine (IOM) report on eight vaccines given to children and adults found that with rare exceptions, these vaccines are very safe” The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, 2015). In addition to this information, the text continues to say “A 2013 CDC study added to the research showing that vaccines do not cause ASD.…

There is data to back up that claim with reports from California and New York. In New York, the percentage of preschoolers found to have autism tripled from 1992 and 1999. In California, there was a 634 percent increase in autism cases from 1987 to 2002 (Glazer). One of the first reports that connected the MMR vaccine and autism came from a 1998 experiment by Andrew Wakefield and published in the Lancet. With that report coming out, the media spread it around along with their own headlines…

Those who are against vaccine use Wakefield’s paper as a viable source for their cause even though it has been regarded as false and Andrew Wakefield a hack. In “Vaccines and Autism: A Tale of Shifting Hypotheses” they give five reasons on why Wakefield’s views and paper on the matter were not accepted. They first explained that Wakefield’s attempt at a test was flawed from the beginning due to not having a control group within the study to deem if it was the MMR vaccine causing autism or if it was coincidental. Secondly the data for the study was not collected completely. Thirdly, the gastrointestinal symptoms did not occur in past autism victims as a symptoms.…

Vaccines and Autism Andrew Wakefield, a British gastroenterologist caused a widespread panic with a now vastly discredited and retracted paper from 1998 that linked the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine and autism. Since his paper, there has been a ton of scientifically unsupported theories linking vaccines and autism. Many parents also stopped vaccinating their children as a result (Gross, 2016). In 2011, Dr. Mercola published an article titled How to Help Eliminate the Hidden Enemy That Triggers Autism.…
