Vacation Bible School: Student Analysis

Improved Essays
On the last week of July, I completed my sophomore service as a volunteer at a Vacation Bible School at a local church. I had gone to the Bible School ever since I was seven but I aged out and decided to become a volunteer. At the Vacation Bible School, the service I preformed was to help the kids and take them to their activities as well as introduce them to Christ. Before the Bible School started, I was nervous and excited to talk to 11 and 12 years old about Christ. When I did the Vacation Bible School I had teachers that were actual ministers that would come to us and teach us about God. So before the Bible School started, I was nervous about the responsibilities placed on me as a volunteer but excited about meeting new kids and seeing my old friends that had gotten older. …show more content…
With the help of the teachers, and the other volunteers that were working with me, I learned how to be open to others and their opinions in small groups, and how to interact with kid that had serious problems in their life or had not accepted Christ as their personal Savior. By the end of the week, 126 kids gave their lives to Christ. In my group, I helped 5 of those kids know Jesus. I honestly can say that from this experience I feel that I have touched at least one of the kids I supervise. From getting personal with the kids in the small groups to just playing games or walking with them, I have truly connected and made a relationship with them. I worked closely with one of my friends during this program and we both felt that we both learned from the kids as well as the overall group leaders how to grow in faith and talk about our issues with someone we

Girl Scouts was a big part of my life when I was young and it really helped prepare me for the future in some ways. I learned a lot about responsibility during our famous cookie sales. When we did our booth sales I got a lot of practice trying to make good sales. I was often told that I would make a great saleswoman which is a great skill to have when looking for a job. The camping trips helped me learn a little more about independence, responsibility, and respect.…

For my sixty hours of volunteer work I decided to volunteer at a Child Life Center which was in a poverty stricken area in Norfolk, Va. At the child life center my job as a volunteer was to assist the children with their homework, help the staff monitor the children on local field trips, as well as serve as a positive role model for the children. The experience I had at Park Place Child Life Center was one I will honestly never forget. Although I didn’t get any actual counseling experience, I was able to learn the ways that the non-profit organization received their funding, I was able to gain experience in working with the youth, and I was also able to make a positive impact on the lives of children who were considered “at-risk youth”. To go there every day and be able to see the change the children had in their behaviors and how much just some attention and affection from adults impacted their behaviors was honestly amazing.…

An experience that changed my life forever was coming to Northwest Christian for high school. Before I attended Northwest I spent all of elementary school and middle school at Rancho Solano. Although my time there was great, it was taught in a strictly academic worldview. Then during my eighth grade year, I made the decision to enroll in Boulder Creek High School. I began to get nervous because of the change in size, but then I started to embrace the idea of change.…

I continued to look for a place to serve more in and help more people but I could not find anything that really interested me. When he asked me to help him along with a few others to grow the student ministry I was ecstatic. He had told us that we were the seven like there were the twelve. I think this is my greatest accomplishment as a leader because even though I was a young student he saw a leader unlike many adults that normally think kids should be put to smaller tasks.…

It is hard to make a prominent impact on someone’s life in just twelve hours but I’d like to think that our group made a positive one when it came to volunteering at KinderFrogs. I feel like the teachers generally enjoyed our presence in the classroom. By playing with the kids, we allowed them to focus on whatever student needed their undivided attention. And by asking them questions about their own lives, we pursued a relationship with them too which allowed them to feel appreciated.…
