In the story “Martin” Vaca learns about someone new in there neighborhood and from first sight hates the new kid Martin. Vaca’s conflict with Martin helps Vaca learn to not judge a book by its cover. Vaca initially doesn't like Martin because he believes that Martin is rich so the treat him badly, but he eventually changes his views on Martin When Vaca first sees Martin he has a strong dislike for him since Vaca thinks Martin is rich, Martin throws a clod of dirt at Vaca and his brother which only strengthened his dislike for Martin.
