When I went on a tour of Virginia Military Institute, I knew that my future career would be combining a Military lifestyle with a computer or civil engineering. My desire to attend VMI started the day I visited the open house trip with my family. After I got home, I remembered how Captain John E. Riester immediately made me feel at home for his shorts introduction to Civil engineering.
The school is different and unique with an outstanding reputation for its high-quality education in the Nation. VMI will provide an opportunity to learn, study, train and develop at one of the Nation’s most rigorous and respected learning institutions. The experience of VMI has a tradition of producing Army, Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps officers of the highest caliber. Honor, Courage, and Commitment are the hallmarks of its graduates. He is there to help others and myself during the time where we were struggling with the Hapkido techniques. I didn’t know that he graduated from VMI. Years later, when I started to search for colleges that I wanted to attend, he advised me to visit VMI. Now, I know why he was wearing his VMI baseball hat.
There won’t be a success without some level of challenge and hard work. Students will expect to learn self-control, time management, and discipline from the day they join the Rat Line till the day they graduate as “Brother Rat.” They will build and preserve friendships that last a lifetime and the leadership values that will guide you throughout the rest of your life.
