VC/TV Ratio

Decent Essays
I think that the VC/TV ratio would show me the speed of my inhalation from the minimum to the maximum and exhalation from the maximum to the minimum. According to (table 5), I got 10.2 for this ratio of mine, which is good since it is in the expected range; at least 10. Not only that this is good, but I was able to know that I did everything correctly. Although there might have been some minor issues, yet, at the bottom line, it didn’t affect me much as of the final result.

PT 826 Reading Assignment The information given in the article by Lau, Chiu, & Lam (2010) about using thoracic manipulation for the treatment of neck pain was very new to me. There were several instances in the past where I treated patients with neck pain by giving mobilizations techniques and modalities in and around cervical area. This article was a convincing one which helped me to understand the concept of biomechanical and etiological relationship between cervical and thoracic structures and how this knowledge can be capitalized by effectively using thoracic mobilization in patients suffering from chronic mechanical neck pain.…

As vasoconstriction increases due to increased pulmonary vascular resistance hypoxia occurs and eventually respiratory acidosis and is monitored through arterial blood gases (Kuhajda et al., 2014). Upon examination patient appears to be in respiratory distress - gasping for air and tracheal deviation as the lung space has decreased and pressures continue to rise, neck vein distention due to altered cardiac output, cyanosis and agitation set in as time goes on due to hypoxia and the increasing difficulty to breath (Crimlisk, 2010). Palpation reveals subcutaneous emphysema as air is trapped within the tissues. Upon listening to the patients chest there is reduced air entry and percussion reveals hyperresonance (Kuhajda et al., 2014). Generally, air enters the pleural space which shifts the equilibrium causing pressure on the surrounding organs and decreases adequate perfusion and…

Pre-procedure ultrasound guided paramedian spinal anaesthesia at L5-S1 – is this better than landmark guided midline approach? - a randomized control trial. Abstract Introduction We hypothesised that the routine use of pre-procedural ultrasound-guided paramedian spinals at L5S1 interspace could reduce the number of passes required to enter the subarachnoid space when compared to the conventional landmark-guided midline approach. Methods After local ethics approval, 120 consenting patients scheduled for elective total joint replacements (Hip and Knee) were randomised into either group C (conventional) or group P (pre-procedural ultrasound guided paramedian L5S1 technique) with 60 in each group.…
