Becoming a college student is a great privilege. During college, students must be aware of their learning styles because it can help students decide their Major and help them succeed by knowing how the students learn in and out of the classroom. I am fortunate to know how I should be approaching my classes. After taking the VARK Questionnaire, I found out that I learn by gaining experience from someone else meaning I would like to have someone show me how to do something and then I will remember to complete the tasks. The Questionnaire will help people become successful as I know it has done for me.

I noticed that in some classes I would do better in them. I knew that there was a reason why some classes seemed to be easier for me. The teaching styles is the reason why I approached some classes with a greater level of adversity. Some of my classes were lecture based and some were classes where students were to be involved more in the classroom. Those types of classes are completely different classes, but there is a similar way to overcome those types of classes. In a lecture I use Cornell notes. Cornell notes is a simple way to help one succeed by helping the students remember what they learned during class. I was not always good at lectures because one has to stay sitting down for a long time and I like to be moving all the time and Cornell notes helped me a lot during high school. This situation helped me realize that you are not born smart, but you develop your intelligence.

During this situation, I am fully aware that nobody is ever born smart. If someone wants to become smart, they have to work hard to succeed. Also, if one has a problem it is not the end of the world there is always one way to overcome it just like my situation with overcoming the lectures in my school. Therefore, it is not the end of the world unless you want it to

After taking the 16personalities quiz, I found that I fell into the category of a Defender (ISFJ-T). For the VARK questionnaire I tested 10 - Visual, 8 - Aural, 13 - Read/Write, and 14 - Kinesthetic. Some characteristics of an ISFJ-T are: that they have well-developed people skills, are open to changes and new ideas, they also tend to have strong social relationships. The strengths of an ISFJ-T are that they are supportive, patient, reliable, and hardworking. Some weakness would be: shyness, very private, and tend to take things personally.…

According to the VARK questionnaire results, I am a read-write learner. A read-write learner is an individual who prefers using words rather than visuals to intake, understand and convey information. The study methods that the VARK questionnaire says are most helpful for my learning preferences includes taking notes, writing definitions and key concepts and taking practice multiple choice quizzes. This questionnaire was very accurate as I use these study methods for all of my college courses and I have fine-tuned them throughout the years. My study method primarily consists of first reading a section out of the textbook and then taking notes on that section.…

For the last four years of my high school career I have sat in all of my classes quietly and patiently, listening to my instructors teach. I’d like to think of myself as a sponge that soaked up everything there was to learn. While there were a handful of classes that allowed hands-on learning, much of my time was spent listening -- absorbing. I took my tests, raised my hand when I knew an answer and established myself as a reliable, thoughtful student. I’m grateful for my years at Hudson High School; however, I believe in high school many people, including myself, fall into a routine.…

Voltaire wrote a quote saying, “The more I read, the more I acquire, the more certain I am that I know nothing.” This quote relates to me because during this past semester I feel as though I didn’t acquire any new skills in the class. Looking back at this semester I didn’t learn anything but instead I felt that I was relearning things, such as locating information, formatting a paper and organizing details. One of the skills I relearned was locating information.…

Reflection for Week Ten During guided math this week I realized just how big of a gap there is between the higher level learners and the lower level learners in my classroom. Even though I have spent extra time working with the lower level students, they receive academic assistance in the classroom on Fridays, and they receive small group lessons with the math tutor every Wednesday, having the opportunity to work with them daily during guided math put a different perspective on just how much this group of students struggle academically. These students have a difficult time retaining the information they are taught. For example, we have been working on even and odd numbers since the first day of school.…

Module Three provided a variety of study strategies, which are beneficial to developing effective study habits. The specific study strategies that appealed to me, in terms of my learning style, were critical thinking, memorization, and effective reading. In Module One, I pulled from a wide collection of personal preferences to profile my learning style. Given not only my predisposition to favor printed words, but also my preference of information presented as graphs, diagrams, and pictures; I consider my learning style to be an equal mixture of read/write (R) and visual (V) on the Fleming VAK/VARK model (Fleming & Mills, 1992, p. 138). I plan to apply my self-knowledge of my learning style to dictate when, where, and how I will study to become a successful student at Argosy University.…

While attending to college, there are two factors contributed to my academic problems: lectures and the interaction. First of all, the lectures are too general. What I expected in a lesson is detailed because I need to understand clearly what I’m studying to improve my socialism but the lecture does not show that. For example, I studied that one Speaking class and it has the lesson about how I can get more customers.…
