VARK Inventory Reflection

Improved Essays
Reflecting on my results from the VARK and MBTI inventories, I am not particularly surprised by what I see. The VARK inventory came back with a result of multimodal: 11 in visual, 13 in aural, 13 in read/write, and 14 in kinesthetic; whereas the MBTI inventory resulted in being an INTP: introvert, intuitive, perceiving, and right in the middle of thinking and feeling.

I have no problems being a visual, aural, read/write, kinesthetic learner, or all at once, if available. Although I prefer to learn hands on and by teaching others what I already know, I can adapt to any learning or teaching style. While this does pose it’s advantages, I have always found it hard to apply myself with learning things that I am not wholeheartedly interested

The results page read that I am 1% thinking and that since it is a minuscule distance away from feeling, I could have prevalent traits of both. This is surprising because I believe that had I taken this inventory 5 years ago, or any time before, the results would have leaned heavily toward feeling. I do still instinctively go straight to the feeling side, but over the years have learned to direct that to a thinking front and analyze things emotionally and cognitively at the same time (certain things are definitely more thinking or feeling based on the context).

I am actually very nervous about going into this collegiate experience, though I’m sure almost everyone is. I haven’t had decent grades since elementary school and never graduated high school. However, I did receive my GED (almost with honors) and am confident in my ability to succeed academically. My plan to accomplish this is simple; commitment.

Although I am an introvert, I am going to actively spend my next four years branching out and opening up to the world around me. I have joined some extracurricular activities, am trying to take front row seats and participate in the classes that I am enrolled in, and have given my contact information to a number of shared-major students in order to make myself available for any help I can offer. While this may not seem like much, to me these are gigantic steps and through the years I plan to expand on

Before attending Wilmington Early College High School (WECHS), I was not satisfied with my personality, nor was I happy with the way I was perceived by other people. Most would think that I should have been confident because in middle school I was in the AIG program. However, I never truly felt satisfied with myself. I always got good grades, but I never felt like I earned good grades. Although I was making straight As and Bs, it was always relatively easy to earn those marks in middle school.…

I have been enrolled at Copiah-Lincoln Community College for less than four months and am the first in my family to go to college. While these circumstances may lead some to repudiate my authority on the matter, I can assure all that the time I've had has been more than enough to create a proper review. Campus life is one area that has defined my experience attending a college. Co-Lin does not have the most alluring campus I have ever visited and, unfortunately, becoming lost is in no way challenging. Until recently, I have unintentionally made a habit of passing my classroom at least twice before realizing where I was.…

As my semester of college arrives, I can't help but be nervous about what is in store for me. For a while now, I've given some thought to furthering my education and obtaining a master and possibly a Ph.D., however, being a first generation college student, I can't help but question whether I am good enough and fully capable of doing so. Transitioning into the unknown has always caused a sense of fear in individuals. A shift that causes much fear is that of going from a high school student and into a college student because of been unaware of what to expect or not knowing how to handle a situation due to lack of knowledge. On the one hand, first-generation college students have a challenging time accommodating to the college experience.…

The experience that I would use to display all of these personal qualities would be my first semester at Miami University. My first semester at college has made me become more independent, willing to push outside of my comfort zones, open-minded, and able to persevere through isolation. Throughout my first semester at Miami University, I’ve learned to become more independent, through most of the daily responsibilities that I hold.…

I scored highest in the reading/writing section in the VARK questionnaire, which most definitely makes sense. When studying for tests and exams I always create my own separate study guide just so I can see the information in my own format. When memorizing spelling and vocabulary words when I was younger I would continuously write the words and definitions over and over again until I finally understood what I was trying to learn. I’ve also always learned better when being assigned textbook pages or reading handouts, compared to getting up snd moving around the class. Currently I’m working on a career project for one of my high school classes and I have to write three pages about my future line of work.…

Gardening was a ‘forced’ hobby for a good portion of my childhood. Since elementary school, I worked with my dad in our back yard; I would dig holes, carry bags of manure, and plant flowers and trees. I complained that it would be easier to go to the store and buy a bag of blackberries instead of toiling in the sun for hours to achieve the same thing. I never imagined that I’d end up gardening for fun. Every year, my brother and I would collect the fruits of our labor; every year, I’d appreciate my efforts more and more.…
