The leader I’ve chosen is V. Burns Hargis, the 18th President of Oklahoma State University. He was named the president in December 2007 and is only the second OSU graduate to serve as the university’s president. President Hargis holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Oklahoma State University and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Oklahoma. Before being named the President of OSU, Hargis led a distinguished law and business career. He was also community minded and displayed abundant civic and philanthropic leadership. He is familiar to many Oklahomans for sharing his political wisdom and humor as the host of the popular news show Flashpoint. He also ran for public office and was inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame in 2009.
Hargis practiced law for 28 years in Oklahoma City before joining Bank of Oklahoma in 1997, where he served as vice chairman. During this time he served as president of the Oklahoma County Bar Association

The 1.2 billion dollar project is said to have unleashed the transformative power of people and ideas. The undertaking centralized on raising funds for students, faculty, facilities, and programs. More than 1000 new scholarship funds were accumulated and 135 new endowed faculty positions were created. Facility upgrades included a renovation of the student union, a performing arts center, and an art gallery. The construction boom is helping to transform OSU to become more competitive in academics and athletics. The creation of the new galleries and student facilities helps recruit new students and faculty. Hargis used the lack of resources as his obstacle to making OSU the premier institution in the state.
