In the novel The Road the boy is confronted with the reality that him and his father cannot help and save everyone. The boy at first is always attempting to save everyone because he believes that they are the good guys and that’s what good guys do. This illusion is then shattered when he and his father leave a man struck by lightning to die, as his father doesn’t trust him to be a good person and believes they cannot do anything. In the beginning of the narrative Evey is shown to not believe in herself up until V puts her trough a lot of psychological and physical torture. As her torture progress and the date of her execution approaches she is shown to slowly come to terms with her impending death. She stops believing that she is weak and instead becomes her true self that does not fear death and can fend for herself. When V releases her she is able to walk the streets without fear and finds her own way to survive. This shows her growth as an individual, as she now sees her true potential and walks her own path.
The narratives of V for Vendetta and The Road both prove that individual will only face reality when they are forced trough by the use of violence that the protagonists experience. This proves that reality is an obstacle that an individual cannot run from, but can only take head on as running from it only prolongs the coming of the
