V For Vendetta Evey Quotes

Improved Essays
Evey is introduced as a compliant citizen in the movie V for Vendetta, who is just as afraid as the rest of the residents of London of what the government can do. She blossoms, however, with the help of V, into an independent, government-defying woman who wants and is willing to do what it takes to change the ways of the corrupt government. Though Evey doesn’t like strict laws that her government enforces, she is very much afraid of the consequences that could be placed upon her if she is caught disobeying the law. When she was caught in the alley going to Mr. Detrich’s house, Evey failed to pay much attention to the men who stopped her until they revealed themselves as fingermen, at which point she begged for them to let her go saying, “Oh, God, no. Please don’t do this. I’ll go home. I won’t do it again, I swear! …show more content…
When asked by V if she knew where she would go after she left his home Evey responded by saying, “No. That would have scared me before…but I suppose I should thank you.” (01:28:23) In earlier scenes Evey expressed to V that she wished she could be unafraid like her parents instead of being afraid all the time. Her saying that, led V to put her through the prison simulation that strengthened Evey into the person she became. Evey had “…faced [her] death…” (01:24:27) as V said, and was ready go out and live on her own. She showed vast amounts of maturity and independence in this scene. At the end of the movie, when Chief Detective Finch ordered Evey to remove her hand from the lever, she responded by saying, “No…This country needs more than building right now. It needs hope.” (02:00:39) Evey was not only displaying bravery and defiance, but in this scene, you could see and feel that she truly had come to believe that the government was corrupt and it needed to be changed. After that moment, Evey proceeded to pull the lever which signaled for the train to go and blow up the Parliament

While Eve Smith of Martha's Vineyard wasn't particularly poor growing up, she was raised while her mother was trying to make a name for herself in the news industry. Eve went from overcrowded public schools to some of New York's finest institutions between elementary and high school. Her goal was to break into the fashion industry, which she did have a talent in, and even in her freshman year of high school she garnered a reputation as a fierce opportunist and massive overachiever. This tenacity led to a steady 4.55 GPA throughout high school and MIT offering her a scholarship for her engineering science projects; she had no intention of becoming an engineer, but she reasoned that her technopathy paired with a good idea would win her awards. MIT's offers meant little to her, but a meeting with the illusive I. Ventura did.…

This quote about the red scare shows that even though some people even though they may not have known any communist would accuse these people to get the attention off of them. In some cases many people got killed for being accused of communism even if they had no clue what communism was or is, and not only did this rumor affect these people on the list but it affected Joseph Mccarthy because in the end he was reckless, and it ended in destruction.…

In spite of changes and destructions on one’s emotional and physical state, there is always beauty in the wake of brutality. This is a key representation throughout “The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak and “V for Vendetta” directed by James McTeigue, in which both successfully emphasises the the concepts of rebellion towards a totalitarianism government and the power of words. ‘The Book Thief’ parallels with the contextual influences of the Nazi Party ruled by Adolf Hitler in the 1930s. Whereas ‘V for Vendetta’ draws a direct correlation from the horrendous acts in Iraq governed by Geroge Bush subsequent to the infamous attack of 9/11. During distratrous time, individuals who are amidst difficult situation, should realise that there is always…

Erika Gottlieb, an academic scholar, warns against totalitarianism and dictatorship in her definition of dystopia. “Dystopian fiction looks at totalitarianism and dictatorship as its prototype, a society that puts its whole population continuously on trial, a society that finds its essence in concentration camp, this is, in disenfranchising and enslaving entire classes of its own citizens a society that, by glorifying and justifying violence by law, preys upon itself”(Gottlieb). Gottlieb compares dystopian literature to dictatorship. Carter also comments on dictatorship in The Passion of New Eve through the character Zero. Eve, after Mother turns her into a woman, is captured by Zero.…
