In the video the citizens use utilitarianism ethics for their moral thinking. They believe that the prisoners have had their chance and they didn't follow the rules so they should be the ones to die. All the citizens believe they are innocent and they are choosing what is best for their own interest. the man that steps up and decides that he would have all that blood on his hands is stepping up for everyone else who doesn’t want to die, but doesn’t want to be responsible for killing all those men. In the video a prisoner steps forward and decides for everyone else what the men should have done form the beginning. It is utilitarianism because the boat that chooses to blow the other up is doing what is best for their own survival. They are given the option to either blow the other boat up or they will both be blown up by midnight. The boat that chooses not to use the detonator is using deontological moral reasoning. This is deontological reasoning because they are sacrificing themselves for the other boat. Batman is showing the virtue of courage when he fights for the safety of Gotham. He is also showing generosity when he does not let the Joker die he catches his instead. The Joker shows virtues of tolerance by giving the people a chose to kill the other boat instead of him automatically just blowing them both up before the time is up.
