Using Theatre For Health

Decent Essays
When I was younger my mom used to tell me I should take a drama class because I loved being silly. I could fake cry for my uncle when he would ask me to. I would always get asked by my mom show my which cackles to her friends. I was always ready to take on some character from TV. shows or commercials and throw myself into it. I would do this because it helped me at that moment not to be shy. Not only that, when my siblings and I would get into conflicts like siblings do, it would usually end up in slamming doors and screaming, nothing was ever resolved. However, when I would use an impractical character to articulate something I did not want to verbalize we all seemed to play along and it was comical, and we resolved conflict without slamming …show more content…
In fact, I think theatre for health is only one way we could use theatre other than drama. Playing theatre games for social anxiety and conflict resolution or any type of issue really, is a good tool. I believe because theatre is acting and improv that you are less likely to be angry with the person you are in conflict with if you role-play. You both have a chance to act out how something makes you feel without having to tell someone that you are mad at something that person may have done. I also believe it would give me an idea of how some children would react in certain situations. I think this would be good tool to use as a teacher for that reason. I could even base some of the ways I teach without theatre by their reactions. By getting my students to play theatre games to focus on some social issues and conflicts I can understand them better. Using theatre games and play to incorporate some serious issues will get them to talk about the issues on a lighter note. Maybe students could relate back to a game we play and solve an issue before it arises. Getting students to act some things out will demonstrate to the children that they all go through the same things in different ways. I even notice myself thinking back to theatre games we have played in class when I am dealing with my friends and even my own kids. It really gets their attention. To sum it up I see all different ways we could incorporate a little

Theatre doesn’t mean learning a new chemical formula or politics going into the 1868 election like traditional classes but instead how to be a person. Through every dance number, character work session and hell week I have watched myself and my fellow cast and crew members grow into more empathetic, broader minded, compassionate, people. If these life long lessons could spread I strongly believe that the world a little less scary and that's exactly what education theatre and arts advocacy means to me. If elected on to this board I would make it my mission to make theatre a universal language even more so within every school.…

For the Love of Theater We live in an era where society has fallen into the pit of the digital age, as electronics, more times than not, control how we visualize life and communicate with others. As a result, there has been a downfall of handwritten and live performance mediums, as instantaneous entertainment and connection like online messengers, texting, email, television and movies fulfill this necessity. However, little does society realize the dwindling of such arts has resulted in fewer personal connections, fewer chances to develop empathy for another, and fewer moments of self-discovery. Consequently, the lack of participation in these mediums will contribute to the ignorance of society at large. Therefore, in my letter, I focus on how theater is beneficial for its ability to shape people’s perspectives on society, and how…

My school did not have technical theatre classes and most of the “tech” work was done by the director and any volunteers. We re-used flats and platforms, we did not have a sound system, and we only had one strip of lights. This class was full of new information for me. There are probably people like me who come from smaller schools and this class really gives a great overview of what technical theatre is all about. I think this class really makes or breaks technical theatre…

I cannot remember a moment of my life where theatre has not been important for me. Being involved from a young age, I was destined to be on stage. It was not until I entered high school when I realized how difficult theatre can be; actors cannot go on stage without understanding the play, designers cannot outline anything without the proper information, and a director cannot direct without a grasp on the themes and ideas of the show. It all comes down to the research for the production. Without this literacy practice of research, no one can put on the literacy event of a performance.…

Screen and stage entertainment are very different; although, they seem to have strikingly similar characteristics and have many comparable features that some do not even realize. Stage provides live entertainment that creates a bond with the audience that can be the same plot but performed so differently each time. Screen is filmed entertainment that can have special effects and captivate every single detail but has no real connection to the audience. Usually, how a person feels about stage or screen entertainment is based mostly on preference and somewhat based on the time era they grew up in.…

What does theatre mean to me? As I review the questions provided for me to include in my goal statement, I feel lucky to express how theatre is unique to me and how I structure my everyday life around the dramatic arts. Anytime I act, I relish in the opportunity to be a leader, to help people, and to accomplish my actions with confidence. I started off with this philosophy at an early age and have not forgotten about it since. In my opinion, acting is not solely about the individual’s performance, but about how an individual actor can use their confidence and passion to impact other actors, enhance a production, and inspire the audience.…
