Using The Headset Analysis

Today was my second time using the Muse™ headset. The last time I used the headset I had a very enjoyable experience and I truly believe it helped me better understand how to calm my mind. I crushed it with a total of 49 birds in a short 10-minute meditation, so this time I had hopes of achieving even higher levels. I decided that I would change up the sounds that I would hear from the muse. Instead of the traditional rainforest landscape, I chose a nice relaxing beach to accompany me through meditation. This decision in turn actually turned out to be much less beneficial that I had hoped for. I finished the session with only a calm percentage of 25% and a total of 1658 points. In my previous session, I attained a calm percentage of 68% and 1414 points. However, my second session was double the length of the first question, so it raised to question what was up with my focus. …show more content…
I went into meditation figuring that I could simply do as I always have and crush it again. It might also have been the influence of the machine on my own mind. The sheer fact that I have a device measuring my brain waves puts a little bit of pressure on ensuring that I am actually being calm. I also believe that the soundscape that I chose had a slight influence on my performance. I know that the sound of the heavy rain was startling in the rainforest soundscape, but the sound of an impending storm coming at you while on the beach was equally, if not more startling. It also seemed like I just could not shake the storm. It was the reverse of my first Muse™ experience, where I was primarily hearing birds and only interrupted briefly by sounds of rain; this time I was constantly hearing the storm and almost never hearing the
