Using Person-Centered Therapy

Julia:
I agree with your post on using person-centered therapy for Victoria, she responded well to the therapist advice, and she seems comfortable with her. Good question about her Dad’s obsession with her being thin and smart and putting so much stress on his daughter to be something she isn’t. Overall, I think the therapist did an excellent job with Victoria session.

Person centred care (PCC) can be defined in many ways. This is due to people having a different perception on what they believe is person centred and it also depends on the type of setting the patient is in. A general definition of person centred care is ensuring that everyone treats others as they would want to be treated (Smit, Cronje, Brevis, & Vrba. 2007). However, within a care setting you often have to treat each patient differently in order to meet their own needs, desires and culture. This means this definition is not relevant to healthcare settings, as it is an overall definition of how society may perceive person centred care.…

Solution-Focused therapy has turned into a prevalent and understood treatment framework as of late. This methodology looks for arrangements, instead of concentrating on hidden issues. Treatment is generally concise, in spite of the fact that advance is measured by results, not by number of sessions. Solution-centered specialists accept that individuals' objections include conduct that originates from their perspective of the world. These practices are kept up when individuals accomplish business as usual in the conviction that there is stand out right and sensible thing to do.…

Notion of ‘Self’ – Reflective practices A recent search of literature on the notion of ‘self’ was conducted for this essay; in reviewing the literature various authors each giving their beliefs and concepts have written many theories and provided many discussions on ‘self’ over the years. Nursing care has changed dramatically within the past two decades with many strides and improvements within nursing practice. An integral development within nursing care was the change of care delivery placing the patient at the centre of their own care, promoting both individualised care and self-empowerment. Although originally coined patient centred care, even this has evolved into what we now refer to as person centred care. Person-centred care has been defined in numerous variations within both seminal and contemporary literature. Gerteis et al.…

Out of all the theories we’ve covered through the course of the semester. Person-centered therapy has managed to capture my attention the most, and here’s why. Now, when I first heard of this therapy I immediately thought. “So, what exactly does the therapist do again?”…

I have never experienced therapy, but always had imagined how the process would be. I pictured a couch and a therapist on a fancy chair like in the movies, and I would just lay there and vent about my problems. Initially, I was very excited to see someone whom I can speak with and possibly help me resolve my issues, but that excitement did not last long. Anxiety kicked in as I got a phone call from the therapist, informing me that we would start next week. I started to become very nervous about the whole client-therapist relationship, for what if I did not connect with.…

William Glasser (May 11, 1925 – August 23, 2013), a renowned American psychologist and psychiatrist, developed Reality Therapy in 1965 - a method of counselling and psychotherapy. In this his disagreement with the Freudian (Sigmund Freud: 06/05/1856- 23/09/1939) theory of mental illness was openly noted, which found great support from a teacher and psychiatrist G. L. Harrington in 1965, an anti-Freudian whom Glasser credits as being his ‘mentor’. Validated by research studies, this theoretical approach has been successfully taught and practiced in the United States, Canada, Korea, Japan, Singapore, the United Kingdom, Norway, Israel, Ireland, Germany, Spain, Slovenia, Croatia, Italy, Colombia, Kuwait, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, and Hong…
