Family Assessment of Shelby Eatenton Latcherie Family does not have a universal definition, and over the years the definition has changed from a traditional mother, father, and children to several variations. Examples of these are parents that are unmarried, are of the same sex and those that do not live in the same household but do what is called co-parenting. The definition of family according to Kaakinen, Coehlo, Steele, Tabacco, & Hanson (2015) is "Family refers to two or more individuals who depend on one another for emotional, physical, and economic support. The members of the family are self defined" (p. 5). The movie, Steel Magnolias, is based on a true story but names, details and events have been changed.…
The purpose of this illustration is to demonstrate the interfamilial relationships of the Salerno family as well as their external support systems and stressors by creating a genogram and ecomap paper by identifying their relationship within the community and the environment they live. Suggestions for improving these relationships and positive energy with the family are discussed. The results of interviewing the Salerno family using the suggested templet are analyzed and described as follows:…
Genogram Paper Jermaine Hibbert Seton Hall University Genogram Paper Engaging in the genogram assignment proved to be a challenging, arduous, and enlightening experience to say the least. Although, my genogram is not as extensive and accurate as it could be, that in and of it-self proved to be an area of unexplored learning of growth. Firstly, I will cover the information I was able to glean from my journalism like exploits with the few family members I knew well enough to answer some of the tell-all questions I was expected ask. Secondly, I will attempt to explore and process as best as I can all the limitations, whether self imposed or boundaries that my large, yet somewhat disconnected family has set in place.…
By watching and listening to the way they interact, I draft a family genogram to conceptualize the status of their family relationships. Afterward, I ask them what changes they want from the family counseling. At the end of the first session, I give out directives that I expect them to change from their discussion. For example, I urge Billy’s father to stop fighting against Billy’s mother and beating Billy. This first-order change may not affect the whole family system, but it eliminates Billy’s distress of involving in their marital…
The guest speaker was a very informative person that recounted numerous personal experiences. She had in the psychology field with clients, over the past years. One of the points that the guest speaker made was to help understand the client that we should make a genogram of their family tree, it would appropriate to make this genogram during assessment. This could provide some great incite into the clients families mental behavior. The speaker is an inspiration to fellow colleges with the work she is doing with children.…
After concluding the genogram, it dawned on me that my family didn’t necessarily have many issues regarding emotional relationships. I think most of it has to deal with the recent transition of a laid-back household to a religious household where my parents are very much involved with the church alongside my younger siblings. With that being said I did notice that my paternal family had a higher chance of dying young whereas my maternal family had a much longer lifespan. I also took into consideration that the marriages that occurred where between individuals that where only a couple of years apart from one another. I can’t claim any educational patterns that have occurred within the household since I’ve been the only one who’s attended college.…
Family Introduction Creating this genogram was a difficult task for me because my parents and their siblings hardly communicate with each other anymore. Ever since the passing of both my paternal grandfather and maternal grandmother, the families have simply fallen apart. Many relatives have distanced themselves from their extended families, and no longer have a desire to interact with their siblings or cousins. Sociopolitical and spiritual issues have caused some members of both families to harbor resentment against one another.…
Immunizations are also important because of the concern with live virus vaccines and immunosuppression. Children receiving chemotherapy drugs for cancer should not receive live vaccines. Although inactivated vaccines can be given to the child with a compromised immune system delaying the vaccination is usually recommended. Family Education The nurse caring for the child with cancer has a significant supportive role in helping the family understand the different therapies, preventing or managing expected side effects or toxic qualities, and watching for late effects of treatment.…

Genogram Assignment Upon reviewing my family history for this assignment . I discovered many shared characteristics of both nature and nurture . Genetic Family History Assessment For this paper, I will complete a genetic/genomic nursing assessment. This will consist of three generations from a family. I will obtain a brief health history of each family member, as well as a reproductive history for any relevant family members. I will also, include ethnic backgrounds of each family member and identify any growth and development of each family member.…
This helps the client to get a feeling that there is more to them, then the problem. The therapist is able to get to know the client that is separate from the problem. The therapist can use the miracle question, or the therapist can also listen to look for exceptions to the client’s problem (Gehart,…
CBT places importance on educating the client about understanding the approach and the theories behind it (Butler et al., 2006). Though it is designed to be a short-term approach, sessions should be a meaningful exchange between the therapist and the client, and clear goals should be identified (Corey, 2012). Goal setting should be a collaborative effort, creating a sense of teamwork and allowing the client to feel motivated to understand its purpose. When the therapist is unsure of how to progress the session, or changes direction without consulting the client, sessions can become ineffective, as clients may feel transparent. Sessions should end with the therapist addressing unanswered questions and providing feedback on the client’s progress, so a sense of closure and comfort is created.…
Many times when we ask children to describe their family they tend to mention only their parents and sibling and many attempt to include their grandparents, depending on the relationship they might have. At young ages many children do not understand the meaning of family structure; therefore many schools attempt to ask children to create a Family Tree. As we know a family tree can be described as a “tree” or diagram that shows the structure of a family from different types of generation. Family tree usually attempt to shows less generations than a genogram. As stated by Monica MsGoldrick (1985), genograms are part of the more general process of family assessment……
Genograms are family relationships represented in a picture. They exhibit family patterns, functioning and emotional relationships. I decided to do my genogram based upon my maternal grandparents. Due to my experience creating a genogram, family secrets, medical issues and education levels are analyzed. As the index person on the genogram, I will gain a understanding of myself and my spirituality.…
