We do a disservice to our own profession by not using evidence based practices. I believe that in nursing school we do learn collaboration with others but we lack coaching. I have often heard nurses tell me that they never truly learned anything about being a nurse until their preceptorship as a nurse in the units. In clinical they know the didactic but not how to apply to the situation.
When a nurse graduates he or she should be able to interpret, understand and apply best practices and use evidence based practices. They should be competent and although they are a still a novice in their profession, they must collaborate and convey their knowledge at an advanced level (McGill, Anderson & Francis, 2014).
