During the last decade, cell phones have become a major source of communication. Since, the 1980’s the use of mobile phones has rapidly increased. We are living in the time where the majority of people own a cell phone. Due to the increase in mobile phones, driving while using a cell phone has become a major concern. We can see in our everyday life many drivers using their cell phones while behind the wheel. What are the effects of using cell phones while driving? One of the major effect is distraction. Many wrecks on the road can be associated with some type of cell phone usage while behind the wheel. When most people are driving they have their phone somewhere they can visibly see it and have easy access to it. Therefore, if they hear a message or a phone call it is their first reaction to glance down at their phones. When a driver looks down at a message it can be for several seconds, which is several seconds of driving without looking. Many things can happen within those seconds of having your eyes off the road. A car can be totaled, a person can be left physically impaired and even lose their life. Does one think seconds can cause so much damage? We can all help prevent this effects from occurring. Some easy ways we can help is by not texting and driving, placing phone calls when you are not moving and letting the person you are speaking to know you are driving and will call them back. This simple rules can make all the difference in the world. We all have seen several commercial and adds advocating “no texting a d driving” but even having a conversation on the phone can cause distractions which then can lead to problems on the road. Let’s all help and keep the roads safe for ourselves and others. We must take this matter serious, so that we can help put an end to so many reckless accidents.
