I agree with allowing every officer the use of a body camera and the reason being that the pros of using the cameras stated above has outweighed the cons. Stated in the article “To date, little research is available to help law enforcement executives decide whether and how to implement the use of body-worn cameras in their departments”. An experiment was conducted at the Rialto (CA) PD, an agency that serves a population of 100,000 citizens. The end of this experiment resulted with the data showing that the likelihood of force being used was roughly doubled when cameras were not deployed, so in conclusion, resulting positively. However, it may become too strict and once it reaches that point, my thoughts will change and I will no longer support these cameras. To further explain, I have noticed while researching for information on this topic the reasons that officers will start using cameras is to provide evidence of one's wrong doing, furthermore, to provide proof of one’s act of violence performed by or to the officer, to stop individuals from acting up and to hold accountability. However, this behavior doesn’t just happen in the police force, this behavior happens everywhere. Restaurants, gas stations, grocery stores, at school, anywhere. So, when will waitress’s and teachers start wearing body cameras? When will every movement made by every individual end up on camera? When will society’s privacy be completely taken away by cameras attached to everyone’s shirts? Eventually, every citizen in this country will be required to wear a body camera for the protection of their innocence in any given situation once the police force is enforced to wear them. No one knows for sure where any of the videos will end up, so which would you prefer, privacy or constant publicity? For the future of these cameras and the sake of privacy to all, as long as this method of preventing violence and proving guilt or innocence stays within the police force, there will be no bigger problems than exceeding
