I would like to present about the symbolism in the novel ‘The Lord of the Flies’. In this presentation, I would like to explain 3 symbolisms and a character that is symbolic.
Well, we talk about symbolism? What is it?
Symbolism is a sign, an object, a character, a shape, or colour that is used to represent something else.
Let me give some examples:
A chain can symbolize two things join together.
Jack in the novel ‘Lord of the flies’ symbolizes evil, the darkness of human’s side and the violence.
A circle usually represents unity.
Traffic lights: Red means stop, yellow means caution, and green means go.
Let me also give another example from the novel that we have read: Lord of the Flies. A conch in the Lord of the Flies represents the power. …show more content…
Piggy
Piggy has an important role in this novel. He gives advice to Ralph about the leadership and gives all his support to Ralph. He encourages Ralph trying to blow the conch since the first time they see it. He gives hints to Ralph on how to do it because he cannot do it, owing to the fact that he has asthma.
Below is the quote that shows Piggy shares his knowledge to Ralph.
‘We can use this to call others. Have a meeting. They’ll come when they hear us-’
‘.... He said you blew from down here.’ … ‘You try, Ralph. You’ll call the others.’

‘I just take the conch to say this. I can’t see no more and I got to get my glasses back. Awful things has been done on this island. I voted for you for chief. He’s the only one who ever got anything done. So now you speak, Ralph, and tell us what-Or else-’

Jack believes that the other boys will follow him because he owns the fire which can be a symbol of power as well as the food.At the end, the fire destroys the island. All the boys are scared. Fire indicates things in life that can help us if we can use it carefully, however, can be so dangerous if it goes big and uncontrolled. Signal fire marks the boys’ hope to be rescued, but when it goes out all their hope is gone and change into a nightmare. The fire then becomes uncontrolled and burns the island and makes the boys are going
