Buying a used car is very risky but it doesn't have to be intimidating or too difficult. Often though, the excitement of acquiring your own vehicle will cloud your thoughts regarding the technical and mechanical requirements of a solid performing car. Most buyers will blindly focus on the style and features of the used car rather than on its overall condition. They often miss its mechanical, safety and cosmetic issues during visual inspection. It must be remembered to perform a thorough inspection before jumping into the seat of a used car. Below are some tips on used car inspections to consider before purchase.

The Engine

Checking the condition of the engine must be the utmost priority during used car inspections. You should look out for rusts, defects on the paint of the seal and the paint of the engine as a whole. Making sure that the engine oil level is stable is also important. Using a dipstick is the most effective way of checking the engine's oil. Note that the marks should be above the low indication of the dipstick to make sure that it is in a good condition. The radiator coolant must also be checked for any signs of damage.

Look for rust, damage and significant bits that don't line up. Paying attention to details will be to your benefit. Check the windows and doors. Ensure that the doors line up correctly by continually opening and closing them. Check the window's automation if it has one. Look for scratches and chips. Survey the outside lights of the car. Make sure that the connections work. Lastly, check the tires, suspension and break pipes. Are the suspension and break pipes rusting? Examine the bouncing movement of the suspension by pushing down on front or rear part of the car. Make sure that the car immediately returns to its still position after it bounces.
