How has the Use of Virtual Reality Impacted Training in Sports? The great football coach of the University of Alabama, Bear Bryant, once said, “It’s not the will to win that matters – everyone has that. It’s the will to prepare to win that matters” (Roberts 2012, n.p.). Anyone who has ever played a sport knows that the key to success is practice, practice, and more practice. Most athletes train for countless hours trying to figure out new ways to perfect the skills that they have already acquired and to achieve those they do not yet have in their skillset. Athletes have struggled with this concept of finding new and improved ways to better themselves in their respective sports. Many athletes wonder how they will prepare themselves for game-like, high pressure situations before they experience them. Athletes have also wondered how they will ever be able to forget a bad experience they have had on the playing field and move on, so it does not hinder their future success. After training for hours on end, it is not uncommon for an athlete to become worn out physically causing them to be unable to continue even though they feel they still need to reach a higher level of skill. Athletes, coaches and trainers have been puzzled by these many, important problems that create roadblocks. Is virtual reality the answer to all of these problems?
