Manor Farm is a fictional farm, representative of pre-revolution Russia, in the allegorical novella Animal Farm. One night, Old Major, a resident prize pig, gives a speech in which he declares to the animals that man caused all the misery that they suffer. Napoleon and Snowball adapt Old Major’s ideas of equality into a communist philosophy called animalism, and in the following months, lead the animals in staging an uprising on Manor farm, and exile the “parasitical humans.” Animal Farm illustrates how the minority in power uses propaganda, scapegoats, and rhetoric to manipulate the thoughts and beliefs of the ignorant and uneducated lower classes.
