The aim of the assessment is to research and report on the different roles that language can have in a child’s life. These roles can be seen and heard in language using oral, visual or written communication which integrates with the diversity of many English standards and social classes to form meaning. To demonstrate comprehension of how language contributes to a child’s life to tutors successfully various academic sources were studied including, the unit text. These findings are documented in the body of the report, along with demonstrating the two key stages in which children develop the ability to convey emotions and ideas through cultural context spoken amongst family and, the introduction of reading and writing language.
What is language and how do we communicate?
As humans, we are natural communicators and require the function of language to convey thoughts, feelings and ideas with family, friends and the community we live in (Fellowes & Oakley, 2014). Language can be expressed through three sources; oral, visual and written. However, ‘not all cultures have had or even today’ recognise written language as a source of communication (Gee & Hayes, 2011). Oral language is the main provider of communication in human society and combined with visual language creates contextual depth with the help of body language, hand gestures, eye contact facial expressions and tone of voice (McDevitt et al, 2013).
