In “Chronicle of a Death Foretold”, Gabriel Marquez creates many ironic events in the story. Santiago’s death is very ironic, and one of the first ironies in the novel is when Santiago’s mother locks her son out of the house, which causes his death rather than stopping it. Another moment showed irony is Santiago’s conversations with his friends about life and death situations, and the unusual things he does that makes the murder easier for his killers.
