The short story, ¨The Tell-Tale Heart¨, by Edgar Allan Poe, is a suspenseful short story about a younger man who murders an old man. The young man is afraid of the old man because the old man has a glass eye that disturbs him. In this story, the author creates suspense by using imagery and repetition.
Edgar Allan Poe shows an example of imagery by describing the scene vividly so that the reader feels like they are really there. His descriptions can make you see the scene, causing the murder to be very suspenseful. This is evident in the text by, ¨In an instant then I dragged him to the floor and pulled the heavy bed over him.¨ (Poe 11) The author also shows many examples of repetition threw out his story.
