Squealer (Pig) uses propaganda to manipulate and frighten the animals to retain power. It was discovered that Snowball, since being outcasted, had been vandalising the farm at night. Squealer takes advantage of this by telling the animals that Snowball is with other farms who are planning to attack. Squealer does this, of course, to frighten the animals so the pigs may stay a step above. ““...a most terrible thing has been discovered. Snowball has sold himself to Frederick of Pinchfield Farm, who is even now plotting to attack us and take our farm away from us!” ...The animals were stupefied.” (p. 79-80). The animals were unhappy when it was discovered that the pigs had been consuming all of the apples and milk. Squealer, yet again, uses this to the pig’s advantage. Squealer tells the animals that if the pigs need these foods to maintain health and well-being. The animals are also reminded that the pigs are brainworkers, and that the entire farm depends on the pigs. Fear is now instilled in the animals, the fear of the farm failing if the pigs are not healthy enough to run it. This results in increased control for the pigs.
