Throughout the whole play, there is an element of madness
Dramatic irony occurs when the audience knows something the characters of the play do not. By giving the audience information which are withheld from the characters, the audience is held in suspense. In reality, it does not make sense for the audience to know more about the story line than the characters, but this form of contradiction engages the audience and pulls them into the action. Sarcasm and irony can draw attention to the meaning transmitted by utilizing conflicting messages. Alternatively, a meaning can be emphasized by transmitting supportive messages through multiple…
In passage one Shakespeare uses diction and metaphor to show the reader the current mental state of Hamlet. The passing of his father is having a dramatic effect on him, while everyone else seems to be passing it off like it never happened. This includes his mother, who married his uncle just two months after his fathers death. Obviously this is a lot to take in for Hamlet and it puts him in a position where he doesn't know what to do with the emotions he's feeling. Hamlet is considering taking his own life.…
In lines 580-585 Hamlet is asking himself why he’s in these circumstances. He doesn’t see himself too important for anyone wanting to hurt him. It shows his faith in Christianity in asking God what has he done to deserve hurt. In the middle of the lines he says ¨Why, what an ass am I!... And fall a-cursing, like a very drab, scullion.¨…

Development of Hamlet’s character through the use of figurative language by William Shakespeare Shakespeare did an outstanding job using soliloquies “Too Too Solid Flesh”, ”Now I am Alone”, and “To Be or Not to Be” describing Hamlets’ character through the use of figurative language. The first soliloquy mentioned above occurs after Hamlet’s Mother tells him not to go to Wittenberg and study but to stay home in Denmark against his own will. In this excerpt Hamlet thinks about suicide and how he wishes his flesh would “melt”.…

An unknown author once said, “Some people create their own storms, then get upset when it rains.” Irony can be seen in three different ways, which include dramatic, verbal, and situational irony. Verbal irony is when the opposite of what is meant, is said. Dramatic irony is when the audience or some characters know something that others don’t. Situational irony is when when the opposite of what you expect to happen, happens.…
In this irrational play, Robin Good fellow is asked to rub a special type of flower on Demetrius’ eyes so that he would fall in love with the next thing that he sees, hoping that he would start to woo Helena. Since Oberon gave Robin such vague details of who the boy was, Robin accidently applies the flower onto Lysander’s eyes, causing him to rapidly fall in love with Helena instead of Hermia. This accident also follows one of the main themes of the play which is the course of love never did run smooth. In this comedic play, people tend to blame fairies for anything bad or unusual that happen in their life. Since this was set long ago, no one had a good explanation for these crazy events that would take place in their lives.…
The Movie Interpretations of Hamlet: Ghosts of the Original? William Shakespeare’s Hamlet, a tenet of English literature, has been interpreted in many different ways since its inception over 500 years ago. Shakespeare manipulates the text to purposely leave an aura of ambiguity. He uses this as a hook, so that the reader involves himself and emotionally invests in the book.…
Shakespeare and Lewis' characters fall into the category of tragic heroes in that they have tragic flaws that eventually lead to their choosing their downfall with a too late realization and ending the death of their loved ones and even themselves. Tragic flaws make the characters who they are, it is what the authors choose to teach through those lessons that matter. Hamlet's tragic flaw, over thinking, caused him to talk himself into a severe depression calling the world “weary, stale, flat, and unprofitable,” Hamlet's bleak outlook on life is slightly justified, in that, his father is recently dead and his mother has remarried to his uncle (I.ii.137). Shakespeare uses Hamlet's tragic flaw of over thinking to teach the reader that focusing…
In Shakespeare’s literature masterpiece, Hamlet, Shakespeare uses humor as a device to briefly distract the audience away from tragedy and dark plot turns that invade the rest of the story. The humorous scenes in the play persistently arise directly before a scene of dramatic emotions or violence. The comedic scenes are scattered throughout the play; mostly prevalent in times of darkness. The most influential comedic scenes in Hamlet appear when Hamlet is hysterically ranting at Polonius, informing the people about Polonius, disposing of Polonius’s body, the gravediggers conversing with Horatio and Hamlet, and the discourse between Osric and Hamlet.…

Hamlet is a world lacking in absolutes. Shakespeare places his characters into situations that reveal the gray areas of their moralities and force them to reevaluate what they consider right and wrong, while never providing a satisfactory answer himself. But Shakespeare always has something final to say about human nature, and in this play full of duality, one of the many binaries reveals a theme: although Shakespeare emphasizes Hamlet’s desire to uphold tradition in the face of corruption, he has Hamlet respond to Claudius’s transgressions by breaking social traditions and norms himself. This juxtaposition ultimately serves to illustrate the idea that tradition is inherently performative, and that humans are inherently corrupt. Immediately upon Hamlet’s introduction, he is preoccupied with the manifestations of corruption in Denmark.…
