Steinbeck uses Curley’s wife and George to show that while dreams are nice to have, dreams don't often become reality. Curley’s wife’s dream of moving to Hollywood and becoming an actress never happened, and remained a fantasy for her. George wants to buy a nice house and some land for him and his friend Lennie, but even though he enjoyed telling Lennie about it, he knows deep down that they would never be able to realize their goal.
Curley’s wife’s has the dream of becoming an actress, though she never has the opportunity to pursue her dream job.
