USA Today captured an unmet need in the market for professionals, students and households that had not been tapped until Gannett seized the opportunity in the 80’s. He reached a segment of the market where readers were in a time crunch to obtain news and relevant consumer information in an expedited convenient manner. He met unmet needs where people were not happy about flipping from page to page to continue the article of interest, so he kept the articles to a single page with the only exception being the front cover articles that continued on other pages within the categorical sections of USA Today. First, they started reporting more hard news in addition to soft news but when Tom Curley became President in 1994, they took a more serious approach and were much more responsible in their reporting and journalism. They also added 1-800 and 1-900 numbers where readers could call to get information on various subjects. Then USA Today did conduct polls to get feedback from their readers So this is a great way for them to identify on a continual basis what the readers desire and opinions are so that they can make adjustments as the future readership will demand from them to stay abreast of current information on things like technology, sports, finances ,etc. Guest columns were added and participation is …show more content…
It is evolving all the time and with the world and global information it has certainly not been as widely popular in other countries as it is here in the United States to read the USA Today paper or website. The world events news and global information would likely be more popular if the other countries had similar needs to the United States. Cultural differences could mean that different cultures need an entirely new format suited to the business personnel in other countries.
