Case 11 - USA Today
Strengths
1. USA Today claim to listen to what their readers want and makes adjustments as needed.
2. Circulation - Online and in print. Current national leader in total circulation as of October 2013. (USA Today, 2013, October 31).
3. Offers 1-800 and 1-900 numbers that customers can call for expert information such as taxes, finances, college admission requirements, etc.
4. Blue chip distribution - sells newspapers in bulk at a discounted rate to hotels and other businesses.
5. Makes news stories easier to comprehend/easier to read.
Weaknesses
1. Only prints Monday - Friday. No weekend edition. Friday is considered the weekend edition. I only purchase newspapers on Sundays if then. I think by not printing on Saturday and Sunday that this could hurt them. I thought that more people purchased newspapers on Sundays and on the weekends. …show more content…
The sections are color coded. Example green for money/section B and Red for sports/section. C. While most people would enjoy the colors for each section, if you are colorblind then the colors don't matter to you.
3. Costs/Inflation. Since we have the internet why would a customer want to pay for a newspaper if they are only interested in certain articles that can be found online for free?
4. Selling advertisements for in print circulation. A company may not purchase ads in the paper when they can sell ads online and through other media such as the radio to try to reach a broader audience.
5. Reports that its biggest readers are males within a certain income bracket. Need to expand to increase female readers and all ages.
