Analyse the relationship between the USA and Pakistan since 2001.

After September 11, 2001 the US and Pakistan started to work as closely allies against war on terror. However, this alliance has seen several setbacks, especially during last four years. Alexander Evans description about the US and Pakistan relations during last decade may give the best impression: “These two countries have at times been close, at others distant, alternately cultivating or compromising each other.“ This essay will focus on the US and Pakistan relations after 2001, on those closest and distant times, about highlights and low points through examples.

Indian issues are not letting Pakistan fully focus to its Afghanistan border. Since from president Obama, the US administration’s Pakistan policy has included also improving Pakistan’s relations with India. Problem with that US objective is: “Pakistan always misperceives the American interactions with Afghanistan and India. Similarly, USA also misread the Islamabad interactions with Iran and China.” The US policy towards India made a crack on two countries relations in political level.

Another complication in the US and Pakistan relations are the US drone attacks within Pakistan territory. Pakistan believes that those are violating their sovereignty and drones are factors why Pakistani people are against the US and drafting to terrorist groups. Through drone attacks, the US is showing no prove to respect Pakistan’s sovereignty. “The innocent civilian deaths are at large scale which resulted in counterproductive in terms of losing Pakistan’s public support to cooperate US.” Those drone attacks made another dispute in the relations between two
