Urinary incontinence is definitely a cause for embarrassment and may negatively affect feelings if independence in patients. I like how you stated that we should give patients back their dignity. I recently cared for a patient with a new diagnosis of an extremely painful spinal abscess. This abscess caused urinary and fecal incontinence in this older patient, thereby causing the patient to become very embarrassed. When caring for these individuals, it is crucial to create a holistic plan of care that includes the emotional aspect of the patient’s needs. Great post!
