Urie Bronfenbrenner was born on April 29, 1917 in the Moscow, Russian Republic. When he was six years old, his family moved from the Russian Republic to the United States. Bronfenbrenner's father was a Neuropathologist who worked at a New York State institution for the mentally disabled. This was likely a big influence into Bronfenbrenner’s career choice. Later on in life Urie went on to study music and psychology at Cornell University where he earned his bachelor's degree in 1938. Two years later he earned a master's degree in education from Harvard University, and then a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 1942. Only Twenty-four hours after receiving his doctorate he was inducted into the Army, where he served as a psychologist
