Urban School Observation

After analyzing the data I've come to two justifications; location and the incentive to do better. School B shows a favorable pattern. Located on the upper side of Athenastan, School B appears to be in the suburbs. Despite allocations that urban schools outperform rural schools, a study claims that students in rural schools obtain more credits than those in urban settings. Thus, it is logical as to why School B has increasing results. School B also has the incentive of continuing to perform well to remain the most exceptional school in terms of test scores. Conversely, School A appears to be maintaining constant results. This may be due to its location near a sporting center, indicating that it prioritizes athletics. As an individual I have always preferred working independently from others, however I am always eager to collaborate with others. I believe interacting with other individuals expands ones’ knowledge and skill set. Throughout high school, I have partaken in a wide variety of sports that have tested both my independent skill set as well as my teamwork abilities; such as volleyball, softball, cross country, and track and field. Being an active individual, I have always been conscious about health, whether it be nutrition-wise, active-wise, or body-wise. The prior 4 years I have been a proud member of the Wellness club at my school in addition to a regular member of Get Fit, a morning fitness class presented to students to boost their physical health. Health in general has always been an interest of mine in addition to general science. Math, biology, chemistry, and physics have always been my strongest and most favourable subjects. A proud achievement of mine has been to receive the grade 11 physics award. To expand my knowledge of science outside of school I volunteer my time at the Ontario Science Centre where I spent a majority of my Saturday evenings assisting staff at the Science Centre to run educational programs about the human

Extracurricular activities help students develop various interests that allow a student to be more active outside of the classroom. Extracurricular activities can also help students apply classroom knowledge to real world situations. I’ve participated in many extracurricular activities that pertained to my interest in medicine, and because of this, I’m able to use my knowledge of science classes to hopefully pursue a career in the medical field. Since my lifetime goal is to change the world through medicine, my courses and extracurricular activities have helped me prepare for my chosen field of study. My courses I’ve taken and extracurricular activities I’ve participated in include AP Biology, Anatomy/Physiology, and the purposeful walks sponsored by HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America).…

Chicago’s Urban Prep Academy boasts of some remarkable statistics: In 2006, only 4 percent of the inaugural freshman class at the school — a public all-male, predominantly black high school located in one of the city’s most beleaguered neighborhoods — could read at grade level. Yet in May, 100 percent of the school’s seniors had been accepted to four-year colleges or universities, many on full academic scholarships.…

After many struggling debates between the parent council of Lorne Avenue and the Thames Valley District School Board, Lorne Avenue will be closing its doors this June. As such, a celebration will be taken place to celebrate Lorne Avenue’s 141 years of educated and shaping young minds. However, Lorne Avenue closing has more societal issues. “The mission of Lincoln Charter School is to facilitate the development of college ready individuals through emphasis on rigorous academics and our community expectations: honesty, respect, empathy, responsibility, service and preparedness.” (Lincolncharter.org) One major community I am a member of is the junior class at Lincoln Charter. Lincoln Charter juniors is the tightest community in the school because we are classified by the Swales Six characteristics. After observing and interviewing students throughout the entire junior class of Lincoln Charter, I noticed that there are multiple cases of similarities that the classmates share in common, communication between the classmates, sports and clubs they are involved in, and the overall goal as juniors.…

During the months of January and February, I observed the theatre tech class at Valley Center High School. The tech class includes Edie Reese, Conner Peterson, Madison Isham, Pattanun ‘Bell’ Punjanun, Michael Charvat, Chris Paul, Jacque Toews, Sabrina Gamblin, Ashlyn Pollard, Trace Tobin, Tommy Brown, Janett Duerksen, Kaitie Showalter, and me. We meet everyday during fourth hour, which is from 10:38 to 11:30. I chose my tech class to observe because it is a social group that I see every single day and it is about half the size of my normal classes. We also have some of the same values; we want to build things fast, but also make sure they are built safely and we all enjoy discussing different movies while working.…

Notably, I have always loved anything science related, even when growing up I would study my mom's biomedical flash cards. No wonder why I have chosen to pursue a major in biology. Moreover, when you are a child you start transcending into what you are destined to be without even noticing it. Whilst becoming fascinated with science I wanted to solve the problem of poverty, building housing for the poor, providing a fresh supply of clothes, and guiding them to find jobs or better yet create jobs for them to do would be amazing. Getting accepted into Saint Leo University can guide me onto the pathway of success.…

For absolutely no reason, other than I thought it might interest me, I took human anatomy and physiology and that has helped give me an edge in different scenarios. From human anatomy and physiology I learned the basic human structure with bones, tendons, ligaments, and muscles as well as some of the basic systems for the human body; such as the cardiovascular, urinary, and digestive tract. This has benefitted me quite a bit since that class two years ago. One instance was when we learned about the digestive tract and how that functions in relation to different foods. I began to notice my sister getting sick frequently and did a little digging into her food history and when approximately she began to feel queasy.…

Imagine if you were an athletic trainer covering a youth football game and you watch an athlete collapse to floor lying motionless after going in for a tackle. Early on, I observed the previous situation unfold before my eyes while working alongside an athletic trainer. Seeing how an athletic trainer must be able to handle such a situation, while communicating to parents and coaches in a calm demeanor, made me realize this profession has something to offer few others entail. Throughout my time as an undergraduate, I constantly looked for new ways to challenge myself not just on an intellectual level, but as a future professional too.…

All over the world people are noticing the different ways their children are learning and how we as parents, future teachers, community members and citizens of this world are working on making the children have bright futures and get to learn the basics of academic education. Robinson was right, “Many of the problems in raising achievement in schools are rooted in how school is done because we do not try to get new ways of teaching we try to think the students are the problem and not the teachers but what the educational system wants the students and teacher to teach. “If your shoes hurt, you don’t polish them or blame your feet; you take the shoes off and wear different ones. If the system doesn’t work, don’t blame the people in it. Work…
