This can be explained as the interest of ghosts/spirits or dreams, insanity. Interest in things that are hard to see and are not in this realm of what people call “normal.” An example of this is the disappearance of Tom Walker’s wife who was never seen or heard from again. The only thing found to explain her whereabouts was her apron hanging from a tree containing a heart and liver. Another example could be when in the story both Tom and his wife act out of greed to "strike a bargain" with the Devil and mess with the supernatural in doing so.…

Discuss the purpose of a doppelganger: “W.S” By L.P. Hartley “W.S” is a story about a novelist who started receiving mysterious postcards by someone who always signed off as W.S. The postcards showed that W.S. had insight and understood facts about Walter Streeter’s life and his work as an author. Reflecting on “W.S.” it becomes clear that W.S is Walter Streeter’s doppelganger. The purpose of a doppelganger in this text is to highlight what it was Walter didn’t like and to elevate himself by creating someone without any good characteristics. So although this text resembles William Strainsforth as a villain, Strainsforth is in fact trying to show Walter Streeter how similar they are.…

Compare and Contrast Essay Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s “The Dying Detective”, as well as Josh Pachter’s “Invitation to a Murder” both feature the tales of two riveting mysteries. Although they were two different stories, several ideas existed in each that ran parallel in relation to one another. These consistencies include the presence of premeditated actions from the characters, evidence of situational irony, and the indication of a foul play mystery.
