There are many similarities and differences between the Washington Metropolitan Area and New York City. I live in Arlington, Virginia and often visit the WM Area, and know a little about the great NYC. A few of the similarities are the type of jobs, the traffic and the significance. Some differences are the population, the buildings, and the street life.
In this paragraph, we will be talking about the similarities between living in the WM area and NYC. The first similarity is the types of jobs. In both areas, the jobs are very office-type. Most of the WM Area and NYC is very white-collar. Although, NYC has more diversity when it comes to jobs that aren't office jobs. Th WM area is home to the federal government, and that certainly influences the job market around D.C. Another similarity is the traffic. The first difference is the population. NYC is the most populous city in the U.S., and Washington, D.C. is the 22nd most populous city in the U.S. NYC is a very urban area (residential), whereas the WM area is less so. This makes a very big difference in the quality of living. The second difference is the buildings. NYC s a extremely urban area, with both new and old skyscrapers carpeting the city. The WM area has skyscrapers, but not as tall. The WM area is mostly old, iconic Roman looking federal government buildings. Also, the buildings in the WM area are generally older than in NYC. The last difference is the street life. In NYC, the street life is more vibrant, stemming from the fact that NYC has more people, especially those walking down the street. This is not to say D.C. doesn't have street life, but people who have lived in both areas say that NYC has a more colorful street
