Uranus And Saturn

Improved Essays
Uranus and Neptune are more bluer than Jupiter and Saturn distinctively because they contain more methane within their atmosphere. Uranus & Neptune contain no liquid metallic hydrogen and their lower masses do not raise the high internal pressures required for the conversion of liquid molecular hydrogen (which they do have) to the metallic form of hydrogen. Both Jupiter & Saturn contain both liquid molecular and metallic hydrogen. Both Uranus & Neptune do contain slushy zones, which are absent in Jupiter & Saturn. These difference most likely occurred due to the each planets distances from the sun; For the heat affects each planet differently and the elements, colors etc. within each planet.

Should Pluto be a dwarf planet or a planet? There has been lots of debate on whether it should be a dwarf planet or a planet. Their is not a big difference between the dwarf planets and the planets. The only difference between the two is that a dwarf planet has an orbit around it which is not cleared out and the orbit around a planet is cleared out. Pluto has been a dwarf planet since 2006.…

As an ice giant, uranus is made up of more ice than gas. Uranus has a much different composition than saturn or jupiter even though they are all gas giants. Jupiter and Saturn are mostly composed of hydrogen and helium, while uranus is composed of ices like water, ammonia and methane. Astronomers think that between 9.3 and 13.5 earth masses of Uranus mass is made up of these ices. Hydrogen and Helium only account for about 0.5 to 1.5 earth masses(Cain).…

Many were astonished that he was the one who had made the discovery since he was not an experienced astronomer. Finally in March of 1792, he cited his discover of his new planet, it even made its way to King George III, thus the planet Uranus is also known as the Georgian Planet. William Herschel’s discovery of Uranus helped lead the way to the discover of the other planets in the Solar System, it helped show that there are more planets out there, just waiting to be discovered, just as Herschel advised it was just that planet’s turn to be discovered, and he was just the one nature chose to find…

    19. Pluto is no longer considered a planet, and is considered a dwarf planet because it has not “cleared the neighborhood around its orbit. This saying pretty much means that Pluto has gained control of the gravity around it. So astronomers made a name for these planets known as the dwarf planets, to show that it is a planet that continues to orbit the sun, but it hasn’t cleared the neighborhood. 20.…

I chose to research about William Herschel, and how he discovered Uranus. It is very interesting to start out with, because I first studied about William Herschel himself and before he started he was a musician, then later in his life he had a interest in astronomy, so he switched later on in life to study astronomy.. He decided to build a huge telescope to look at the stars. HE was very interested in with how light reacted with the eye and said “the eye is one of the most extraordinary organs.” With his telescope he isolated double stars so he could measure the stellar parallax.…

The discovery of Uranus made a huge impact on astronomy and the science community, and especially with the discovery of Neptune, which happens a little more than 60 years later. William Herschel, born in 1738 and the man behind the discovery of Uranus, would change history forever, and it all happened because of his excellent telescope making capabilities. Herschel was a very talented organist and musician, but his true passion lied with searching and recording the night sky. He was a telescope maker, and loved studying the different stars at night. His sister Caroline played a huge part in his discoveries by taking notes for him, and searching for comets.…

The topic I chose was the discovery of the planet Uranus. Uranus was discovered on March 13, 1781 by an astronomer by the name of Sir William Herschel. One night as William Herschel was studying stars that were too distant to see with the human eye he noticed an object that moved in front of all the other stars. Further investigation led to the idea that the object was actually another planet slowly revolving around the sun. That was the discovery of Uranus.…

Uranus: The Discovery A man by the name of William Herschel discovered Uranus on March 13, 1781. He had observed the space and stars, until one night he found an addition to the family of planets that orbited the sun. According to my research, I couldn't find a specific motivation to study space other than the curiosity he had for what laid beyond our world. It was then, on March 13, that he noticed a dark space moving across the sky.…

Saturn’s rings strike wonder in many people, often pondering what these beautiful rings are made of and how they were formed. The majestic rings of Saturn formed after slowly over the course of millions of years over time eventually forming into the beautiful rings we see today. The composition of these rings consists of rocks and icy bodies, floating from the debris of bigger bodies that collided and formed from failed moons or other rocky bodies. As they crash and grind together gravity forms it into a single disc around the gassy planet.…

Both Neptune and Uranus contain large amounts of methane gas in their atmospheres. Neptune does contain a large amounts of hydrogen and helium but still has a significant amount of methane. This gives Neptune a blue hue while Uranus is a green blue color. The reasoning behind this is similar to looking up and seeing a blue sky here on earth. Light bouncing off molecules here on earth allow us to perceive that the sky is blue.…
