Austin residents are well familiar with the Mopac construction project, but the recent reduction of northbound Mopac to only two lanes of travel has created a new set of problems for commuters throughout Austin. A single lane has been along Mopac at Enfield Road has been closed to allow crews to work on underpass and realignment construction, this phase of construction is expected to last for the next 6 months. The lane reduction has created substantial problems for Austin as drivers try to find alternative routes during rush hour, causing serious congestion on other northbound routes, including South Lamar, South 1st, and South Congress. Along with longer travel times, Austin drivers are also reporting more accidents and increased frustration, especially during the rush hour periods when drivers are in a hurry to get to work.…
countryparty.org.au - A Call for a Change: Rebuilding the Colac Police Station We often underestimate the importance of the efforts of the rural law enforcement such as the officers that work out of the Colac police station. This station dates back to the 1940s and even though the reception area has been revamped recently, it still needs additional refurbishing to bring it up to modern standards of policing to ensure that the citizens receive the level of protection that they deserve each day. Citizens and political figures fear this station in Colac is not as it should be, because the government often marginalises the county Polwarth. If the government would only stop to consider the importance of this police department to its rural community, maybe…
One reason is the dynamics of the neighborhoods may differ. One neighborhood may have a large population of young adults that may demonstrate more deviant activity as compared to the neighboring neighborhood that may be a more settled and made up of mid to older aged residents that did not adopt the “code of the street”. Another reason could be due to the type or amount of illegal activity that is going on in one neighborhood compared to the adjacent neighborhood. Moreover, one neighborhood could have a multiple number of gamblers or drug and gun dealers, which would draw a wide diverse of individuals in and out of the dealers’ place of residency.…
Crime varies in different locations because there are many different factors that contribute to the amount of crimes that happen in a certain area. Community areas such as Lakeview, Austin, Little Village, and Roseland differ because they vary in financial status, and have different environmental factors. The communities with high rates of crime and violence are Lakeview, and Austin; the communities with lower acts of crime and violence are Little Village and Roseland. These communities can be categorized under Social Disorganization Theory. In Little Village and Roseland acts of violence may not be so high, but they aren’t low either.…

Control theory When it comes to burglary it has told be down for the plainly fact, the police have taken record numbers of criminals of the street. The number of police has also improved on the streets because of on the beat and pro- active policing. Also once the stop and frisk came into play that has helped drastically. Measuring the amount of occurred crimes in a society is full of difficulties and challenging. Regardless of the reasons of why some individuals have chosen not to report their encounter of crimes or incidents, the limitation of the crime recording approaches is noticeably concerning. No matter on the practical or political aspects of the criminal justice system (Maguire, Morgan & Reiner, 2012). The genuine solution of tackling the problem about the phenomena of unreported crime is quite national which cannot share with other countries (besides some international crimes) and even in different cultures. Correctly measuring the quantity of crime is seems like impossible.…

Geographic coordinates appear to be consistent, minor differences within some co-ordinates suggests comparable addresses may exist in additional locations.…
On this Earth there are many people who work very hard to survive. Many people are not as fortunate as others, and were not born into good circumstances. People struggle with poverty and crime on a daily bases. Even though America is better off than some countries, there are certain cities that still struggle such as Cleveland, OH and Detroit, MI. Detroit has one of the highest poverty rates in the United States.…
Statistics consistently show that there is higher crime rates in lower income areas then wealthier suburbs but the higher crime rate may not be the actual reason for criminal behavior in low income areas. Police tend to focus on the low-income areas where they assume is more crime leading to more arrest. Theorists Robert Sampson and William Julius Wilson in 2005 argued that factors that cause an area to become economically and socially disadvantage encourages criminal activity. In the upper class privileged communities white collar crimes (fraud, embezzlement, or insider trading) take place but are rarely spoken of.…

Therefore, high levels of immigrant populations are actually correlated with decreases in crime levels as opposed to increases, and this fact remained true even when accounting for other variables such as neighborhood dynamics, ethnic cultures, and socioeconomic status of residents of the communities and neighborhoods in question (MacDonald, et al. pg.195-196). In accordance with MacDonald, et al, there was another research made by Wadsworth Tim how found that cities with more noteworthy development in immigrant or new immigrant populations somewhere around 1990 and 2000 had a tendency to have more extreme decreases in homicide and robbery rates (Wadsworth). Wadsworth looked at specific patterns of homicide and robbery when analyzing criminal activity and only in cities where the population was over 50,000. Data regarding population demographics was also used to determine the rates of immigration in these cities and how many immigrants were projected to live in urban areas during the periods of interest (Wadsworth pg.543). He also supports MacDonald, about the crime and immigrant’s levels saying that immigrants are actually associated with reduced crime levels.…
The two main sources of crime data are self-report surveys and official records. Official records hold data about offenders and types of crime, typically coming from police departments from their National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) that reports the numbers of offenses called into 911. This data is then compiled into the Uniform Crime Report (UCR). While the UCR has data about the crime and the suspect, it does not address the victim, and it only discusses reported crime. In order to include victim information, the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) administers a National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) to victims across the country.…
Choropleth mapping or thematic mapping of geographic boundary areas, commonly census blocks or administrative districts, is a technique which is easy to execute and requires little technical knowledge to identify the areas with high crime intensity. But, the varying sizes and shapes of these areas make it difficult to identify hotspots based on the thematic shading and thus can be misleading (Eck et al., 2005; GIS and Crime mapping p.150,…
