Crime statistics cannot simply be compared by looking at the number of a certain type of crime occurring in two different areas. This can create inconsistencies when comparing areas with a significant gap in population (ex. rural areas and urban cities). In the case of Upton and Warwick, Upton has a population of 50,000. This is significantly less than the population of Warwick, which is 400,000. It is natural, since Warwick has a larger population, that there would be far more crime occurring. This fact is supported by Warwick having 30 attempted murders in comparison to Upton’s 14. To compare these two cities, you would have to take the number of crimes occurring and divide them by the population to create a percentage to represent the crime
