1. According to the textbook, the triple bottom line “represents people, planet, and profit, and measures an organization’s social, environmental, and financial performance” (Kinicki &
Williams, 2016). As UPS attempts to make sustainability a priority, they must carefully examine all points of the triple bottom line and not focus on just one particular area. In regards to people,
UPS has chosen to implement a safety training course for drivers in several countries. This benefits not only UPS’s own drivers, but also the safety of middle class drivers out on the road for the first time in these foreign countries (Kuehn & McIntire, 2014). Concerning the planet,

Because UPS is concerned with their employees (and future customers) safety, they are willing to put effort into this overseas program.

Since UPS is so popular, I can only assume that the bottom of the pyramid, profitability, has already been fundamentally established. With just the examples that I have from the case study, I cannot really answer as to whether they are fully obeying the law in all aspects.
However, their safety training for drivers is being endorsed by international public officials, which means that UPS is most likely doing a fine job of following the authorities and laws set in place. The third tier seems to be well established because of UPS’s choice to begin towards more sustainable practices. Kuehn also states that “companies have a responsibility to contribute to society and the environment” (Kuehn & McIntire, 2014). I believe that UPS has even made its way to the top of the pyramid because they have chosen to work alongside of other businesses in order to build productive partnerships. These partnerships will help strengthen momentum towards sustainability.
