This principle of government is expressed in the Declaration of Independence as, “WE hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal.” This states that God creates everyone to be equal. The Declaration of Independence also says, “ HE has affected to render the military independent of, & superior to the civil power.” This excerpt means that the King declared his soldiers to be superior to everyone else in the colonies and that they didn’t have to follow the laws and rules that we had. This didn’t follow the American principle of government that all men were equal because the King made the soldiers a higher rank. The people saw this as unfit. There are many examples in our history about making people equal. For example, when women saw that men could vote and they didn’t, the women rose up to say that all people were equal and they deserved the right to vote. This resulted in the 19th amendment in the constitution, “The right of the citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on any account of sex.” In 2016, 52% of the people who voted in the election were women. Like the first. It says that the government is created by the people for the people and should make decisions that would benefit the people. I truly believe, that at the heart of our government, their are always good politicians who do things for the citizens of this country instead of for themselves. Our second principle is also held in check. People are allowed to protest when they don’t agree with their government in America and I believe that represents the second principle of government. The last principle of government that I believe we are upholding correctly, is the final one. All people have basic rights, and I think that both the government and the people have learned this through the women’s suffrage and Civil War. I believe that we aren’t following the third principle as closely as we should be. Women still get discriminated against in the workforce. Blacks, Latinos, and Hispanics still get treated horribly in today’s society. Although the Constitution strives to make all people in America equal, the government doesn’t understand this. Some politicians work for all people to be equal, but most are proven to be sexist and racist. In conclusion, America is holding up to its principles fairly well, but work needs to be done if progress wanted to be
