“Perhaps the most difficult step in the process of creating an ethical organization is to set the referral points with which one can assess the ethical value of an action” (Upadhyay & Singh, 2010, p.15). In the article, “In Favour of Ethics in Business: The Linkage Between Ethical Behaviour and Performance” Yogesh Upadhyay and Shiv Kumar Singh (2010) seek to illustrate how difficult it is for organizations to change their manner of business and the necessity for corporate change to attain an ethical business. Companies are struggling to make a profit in highly competitive markets and many firms are looking for ways to increase their profits. How far are corporations willing to go to increase sales and investments; it will depend on the values and ethics of that corporation. Values and ethics within a corporate setting are not any different than values held by individuals, but many individuals have had their values challenged within a corporate culture. A corporation is in business to make money, but how that business makes money will define their corporate values and culture. Corporate culture is how a company’s managers and employees think and act when conducting business.
