In the story “Up the slide”, Clay Dilham is sent on a duplicitous adventure to find wood to sell. But it is getting cold and he has to hurry. But, there is also another problem. He needs to climb a mountain to get the wood in time. Just knowing about what he is about to do proves that he is daring. But one reason that stood out to me was on page (177) when he starts to climb the mountain, but he runs into a problem. He can’t hold on to the rocks, so he takes off his gloves to get a better grip. Are you one of those people who just knows when it is time to play it safe? Well, Clay certainly is one of those people. When he gets to the top of the mountain, he realises that it is dark. So, on page (179) he takes the safe way down to prevent himself from falling. At the beginning of the story it seemed like that he would be the person to do the stupid thing and climb down while it is dark out. But, he proved the reader's wrong and took the safe way
