One of the reasons for this is the political beef with the U.S. that has gone on for over half a century. Other countries can’t trade with Cuba legally; so many people rely on the island and Russia for everything about survival. Cuba has the most untouched nature in the Caribbean with vibrant coral life. Much of the pollution that affects other Caribbean islands, don’t necessarily affect Cuba because they still have old school vehicles from the 1950’s that don’t burn much gas. Also, Cubans aren’t legally allowed to sail on the ocean and fish. However, they can fish for the bay. Because of this, it has created a vibrant ocean life not seen anywhere else. Cuba can’t legally trade (U.S. negotiations are in process now) with other countries so unnaturally processed foods are not flowing into the island poisoning its citizens. Healthcare in Cuba is free and the population receives great treatment for every type of disease. Many of the doctors in Cuba are highly educated and they typically stay on the island. All of the hotels have medical staffs on hand for emergencies. Most importantly, there are many healthcare facilities around the island that the citizens can take advantage of. Life expectancy in Cuba is 78 years; 76 for men and 81 for women (2014).
