Number The Stars is a great book based upon a true story. It is placed in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1941. Years after the war started, the Nazis started to patrol the streets. There are two main characters, Annemarie Johansen and Ellen Rosen, which are best friends. Annemarie and Ellen come face to face with a wild adventure that reveals the danger of knowing the untold, knowing the untold secrets, and knowing the told lies, and the. One of their lives is in serious danger. Annemarie and Ellen are both young and mature 10 year olds who faced danger one day. They were foot racing on their way home from school, when they encountered two Nazi soldiers trying to have some fun by startling the girls. Nothing happened until Annemarie’s little sister Kirsti got angry when one of the soldiers grabbed at her hair. Later, Ellen had to stay with the Johansens for a while, because her parents had to go to a secret place to hide from the soldiers. They had to leave because the Nazis captured the Jewish synagogue lists that had all of the Jewish people’s names and information of where they lived. Therefore, her parents would have probably been captured if they were still there.
