Unsuccess In Military

Decent Essays
I have always been someone to never give up. I believe a lot of it has to do with being in the military and the way I had to work growing up. I also did not let failure get the best of me. I have heard people say that insanity is trying the same thing over and over with the same results, but what if you try each attempt over and over using a different method each time? The most unsuccess I have ever felt was transferring from the military to civilian workplace. I am thankful I was a good saver and my wife had and still has a great job ,but I went from active duty to working for a low paying catering company. Soon, I will be describing my reasons for unsuccess, what I would have done to reduce the frustration leading to slower success, and what I learned from it all.

There are many factors that led to my unsuccess. To start, I had saved up money from active duty and let my wife talk me in to taking a month off while she worked. I knew about this job, was misled on how much I would be making, and made no attempt to find a back up with my time off. The town I live in also has limited opportunity being a tourist destination, and I never searched outside of the town for other opportunities. It is my fault but I also did not know where to start.

I had problems with rude people thinking they were higher than you, and I couldn’t ignore it. I would do whatever someone was doing to me back to them, ignore tables that made me mad to be without service, and I had a big problem with calling out certain people that we catered to in church conventions on how bad they treated people. Doing all of these things just made my work days even longer. I could have used that time to get to know people in a better way and find more opportunities. If I went back I would have stayed in better spirits. Reducing the frustration could have led me possibly to better

One example of this is when I tried out for the tennis team. At first, I was rejected. I was disappointed, but I knew that if I practiced as much as I could over the summer, I would be able to get on the team by the time the second tryouts came around. So, I practiced as hard and as frequently as I could, and sure enough, I got on the team. If I had given up when I had first hit a setback, I wouldn’t be playing tennis with all my teammates right now.…

There’s a Chinese Proverb that says, “Failure is not falling down, but refusing to get back up again.” I really wish I heard that quote when I thought I was a failure, but really was just being lazy. In Carol Dweck’s article “Brainology” a study is conducted on seventh grade students and their mindsets. Their mindsets were measured and studied for two years. Dweck studied the difference between the fixed mindset and the growth mindset students and how they did in school.…

Failure has always been a huge aspect in my life recurring in everything I indulge myself in; whether it be academically, athletically, or even Boy Scouts. I tend to have a knack for challenging myself till I am unable to complete the task given to me, whilst this could be good in some ways it also puts me in some not favorable situations. More recently I had the thought of completing a bike race , after receiving medical attention for a concussion and a broken collarbone. This was not necessarily the smartest decision on my part, especially since the race was longer than I have ever raced before and also a three day event.…
